Switching from classic brow tint to henna

Do you currently work with classic eyebrow tint, and are clients asking more and more often for henna brows? Then you want to try the technique without building up a full stock straight away. This starter set contains five shades of henna eyebrow tint and all the tools for your first treatments. It is the entry point into the henna eyebrow tint collection.

Why switch from classic eyebrow tint to henna?

Classic eyebrow tint mainly colours the hairs and leaves hardly any mark on the skin. Henna eyebrow tint colours the hair and the skin underneath. That lets you temporarily fill in sparse areas, correct the shape and balance out asymmetry. The result stays visible on the hairs for up to 6 weeks and on the skin for up to 1 week.

For your client, that means a fuller, defined brow after a single treatment. For you, it is a treatment you offer alongside your existing brow tint. Clients who are happy with their shape stay with classic tint; clients who want more shape and volume, you help with henna brows.

Henna brows do call for a different way of working. You work with a paste instead of a liquid tint, and the processing time determines how dark the result becomes. With the five shades in the kit, you learn how henna develops on different hair and skin types. Record the shade, mixing ratio and processing time for each client in the client record. That way you build up experience quickly and know which shades to top up as single sachets.

What's in the Henna Eyebrow Kit?

• 5 sachets of 1 gram henna eyebrow tint: Blonde, Grey Brown, Light Brown, Medium Brown and Dark Brown
• Angled brush with spoolie
• Pipette
• Mixing dish
• 10 disposable brow rulers
• White Stick: a white wax pencil to map the shape and protect the skin around the brow

Use Grey Brown to make lighter or darker brown shades cooler. Chestnut Brown, Copper Brown and Black are not in the kit; you can buy them as single 1 gram sachets.

How to get started

Measure the brow with a disposable ruler and map the shape with the White Stick. The wax immediately protects the skin around the shape from tint stains. Mix the powder in the dish with the pipette and a few drops of water into a thick, smooth paste, and apply it with the angled brush. Each sachet is good for about five treatments, so around 25 for the whole kit. When a shade runs out, top it up with single 1 gram sachets or the pack of five sachets. On the skin the colour stays visible for up to 1 week. Advise your client to maintain the shape after that with brow powder or a brow pencil.

Safety: patch test and allergy

This henna contains PPD (p-phenylenediamine). Carry out a patch test on the inside of the arm 48 hours before every treatment. Do not use on clients allergic to PPD or resorcinol, clients who have reacted to a hair dye or a temporary "black henna" tattoo, or clients under 16. If a reaction occurs during or after the treatment, remove the henna immediately. In case of swelling of the face or lips or difficulty breathing: call 112 (or your local emergency number) immediately. If in doubt, refer the client to their GP. Leave at least 72 hours between tweezing and tinting. Wear gloves, protect clothing and your work area, and avoid contact with the eyes.

Do you need training to start with the kit?

What is the difference with hybrid eyebrow tint?

Henna is a powder that you mix with water; you can blend the eight shades with each other into a custom shade. Hybrid eyebrow tint is a cream that you mix with a developer and that you can combine with brow lamination.

How do you store an opened sachet?

Seal it with tape, store it in a dry, dark place and use it within two weeks.
